Verity

There’s no book I’ve recommended more than Colleen Hoover’s Verity. This psychological thriller is a masterfully crafted tale that’s both eerie and gripping. I read it months ago, and I eagerly share it with anyone seeking a fantastic read.

This mind-bending novel introduces Lowen, a struggling writer with financial woes after her mother’s recent death. In a moment of desperation, Lowen accepts a job offer that could potentially change her life. She becomes a co-writer with Verity Crawford, a renowned author currently unable to write due to incapacitation. The pressure mounts on Lowen to complete Verity’s unfinished work, and she delves deep into the world of Verity’s writing to fulfill her contractual obligations.

During her research at Verity’s family home, Lowen stumbles upon a chilling discovery—a manuscript that unravels Verity’s life story. This spine-tingling confession-style narrative reveals the haunting events that have deeply impacted Verity’s family. Faced with a difficult choice, Lowen decides to keep the autobiography hidden from Verity’s husband, Jeremy. However, as she starts to get romantic feelings for Jeremy, her protective instincts heighten.

The story unfolds with suspense and intrigue, leaving us wondering about the future of Verity, Jeremy, and the writer hired to continue Verity’s literary legacy. Verity is a twisted unsettling thriller that will keep you page turning from beginning to end.

“The After Party”

26150788When life was a bit slower I always had a book to read. Now life is more busy and I find time for reading to be rare. These days there are convenient ways to carry a library of books around on an e-reader or a tablet, however I don’t enjoy reading an electronic book. There is something about going to a bookstore or library and browsing through the shelves to find the perfect book. To hold the weight of the book and to feel the texture of the pages when turning, it is all part of the experience for me.

Recently I went to Barnes & Noble and on their “Previous Best Sellers” table I found a book by Anton DiSclafani titled “The After Party”. Anton wrote a story about a lifelong female friendship set in the 1950’s glamorous Houston social scene. The relationships are complicated, obsessive, consuming, and captured me from the first page to the last.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

9781471131820Last weekend we were rearranging the home office and I noticed a few books sitting on the shelf that still had bindings that were not creased. I decided to take them off the shelf and promote them to my bedside table.

Book One: “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns”. I loved the “Devil Wears Prada”, and am pretty sure the sequel will prove just as entertaining and give that warm fuzzy feeling in the end.

Book Two: “The Summer We Read Gatsby, The Novel”. I am a huge fan of Gatsby and have read the book numerous times. I also love the 1974 film featuring Robert Redford in the starring role of Jay Gatsby. Yes, Leonardo DiCaprio did a good job, but he is no Robert Redford.

I digress.

Book Three: “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. This book was purchased by my husband, and he “forgot” he bought it last Spring at Barnes & Noble. I decided it will be the first read of the three. I can use some good habits to become more effective. I’ll try to share some thoughts throughout the read.
