Fall Sunflower Decor

The beginning of fall is great time to switch up your decor. You might not be ready for pumpkins, but what about sunflowers? I think sunflowers are happy, and whether you love real blooms, artificial ones, or a combination of both, here are a few ideas of how to use them in your space.

Fresh Cut Sunflowers

In most places, sunflowers bloom during summer and fall, making it easier to find bunches at a local home-and-garden store. Once you purchase your sunflowers, there are many ways to highlight them in your home.

Centerpiece

Add branches of baby’s breath to your bouquet, and place the flowers in a chic tin tub, a trendy Mason jar with a burlap bow, or a timeless glass vase. Cut the stems at an angle, and fill the vessel about three-quarters full with room-temperature water. Change the water every one to three days for longevity and maintain the vibrancy.

Floating Flower Bowl

Start by filling a decorative glass bowl halfway with water. Cut the sunflower stems close to the head, and place them into the bowl, they should float. Floating-flower bowls look elegant on your kitchen table or entry table.

Sunflower Welcome Sign

If you’re not ready to craft a sunflower wreath, this welcome sign is just as warm and inviting. Hang it on your front door, in your kitchen, or along an entry for the best look.

I love Fall Decor and can’t wait for pumpkins, hay bails, scarecrows and more!

Revamp Kitchen Cabinets

If you want to save a bit of money you might try revamping your kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them. If you have good quality cabinets try painting the cabinets and adding new hardware it will give your kitchen a great new look and feel.

A Few Items You May Need

  • Screwdriver to remove hardware
  • Drop cloth
  • Ziploc sandwich bags
  • Permanent marker
  • Cabinet cleaner
  • Sandpaper
  • Sanding block
  • Primer sealer
  • Paintbrush
  • Semigloss paint
  • Tack cloth

Directions

  1.  Start by removing the cabinet doors, drawers, and all hardware.
  2. Using the cabinet cleaner, clean all surfaces, and allow them to dry thoroughly.
  3. Lightly sand all doors on all sides and faces. Use the sanding block to prevent rounding the wood edges.
  4. Apply an even coat of primer sealer to all surfaces.
  5. Use the semigloss paint to paint: First inside edges, openings in the face frames, outer cabinet sides, and face frame fronts. Next paint the cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
  6. Allow paint to dry for at least four hours between coats. Once dry, lightly re-sand all surfaces, wipe away dust with a tack cloth, and repaint. Typically, two coats of quality paint will suffice.
  7. Add new hardware
  8. Reassemble the cabinets and drawers and voila you have a refreshed kitchen!

There are also counter top kits to update those dated counter tops and make them look like quartz and/or granite – again a much less expensive alternative.
